George Egg - Snack Hacker/Anarchist Cook

Where:

Food Theatre - Outer Bailey

When:

THE SNACK HACKER
Rule-breaking Recipes for Cooks and Non-Cooks,

George Egg inhabits a place where the potentially frowned-upon (processed cheese, salad cream) sits with the gourmet (tahini, seaweed) and on occasion the deluxe (lumpfish caviar, Babybel). Discover hacks for fast food favourites alongside ‘proper’ recipes, using surprising combinations, unexpected ingredients and unconventional methods as George guides you from DEEP-FRIED POT NOODLE to MICROWAVE SHAKSJUKA and PESHWARI TOASTIES to BEER-BATTERED CELEBRATIONS.

Designed and illustrated by George’s son (Jem Ward) and a homage to George’s father, and peppered with a generous helping of culinary memories of eating in the ‘80s, this is a joyful celebration of food and a reminder that it’s sensible to play in the kitchen.

George Egg is difficult to categorise. He straddles the gaps between passionate home cook, recipe inventor, food writer, content creator (horrible phrase but not as bad as ‘influencer’), theatre-maker (though his shows straddle another gap between comedy act and illustrated lecture) and prop-based stand-up comedian.

He has written, produced and performed numerous food-centric comedy shows which have toured the UK as well as overseas throughout Europe and as far afield as Canada and New Zealand.

In 2024, by public vote, he won Content Creator of the Year at the Fortnum and Mason’s Food and Drink Awards, despite being pitted against a phalanx of hip young gunslingers less than half his age. So there!
