Italian wine producers and twinning members visit Ludlow each year to set up stall in the Festival...
Ludlow has been twinned with San Pietro in Cariano, Italy, for 26 years.
San Pietro in Cariano is one of the five towns in the Valpolicaella region. Famous all over the world for its extraordinary wines - Superiore, Ripasso, Recioto and Amarone - Valpolicella is a valley that has a privileged position between the historic and beautiful city of Verona and the ever popular Lake Garda and surrounded by mountains. San Pietro and the whole valley enjoy a particularly favourable climate that in the 14th century attracted the aristocracy of Verona who built wonderful villas and luxuriant gardens. The valley is rich in historic treasures and buildings and offers innumerable cultural, artistic and gastronomic itineraries.
One of the greatest achievements of the Italian Twinning Association has been the link between Ludlow’s hugely successful Food and Drink Festival and San Pietro’s Magnalonga, a leisurely walk through sublime vineyards and wineries where you can taste their celebrated wines and traditional dishes at convivial stops throughout the day.
Italian twinning members and wine producers visit Ludlow each year to set up stall in the Food Festival, while a group from Ludlow regularly visits San Pietro in April for the Magnalonga. 20 years ago, wine producer Giuseppe Mizzon brought his excellent wines to the Ludlow Food Festival and they are well remembered to this day. This year his grandson, Nicola Mizzon, carries on the family tradition, bringing Superiore, Ripasso and Amarone. Twinning members will also bring Prosecco from the region in Italy which produces the original and best. This sparkling wine has outstripped Champagne for weddings in the UK!
